Home Remodeling: Thinking Smarter Not Bigger

So, you are thinking about remodeling your home and you have all these big and grand ideas to turn in house into a house for a lifetime. Your goal in remodeling your home is to personalize your home and unlock your style to tailor and custom fit your home to your style and living needs.   However, before imparting on them, you need to take a step back and really look at how you need to adapt your home to your real living needs by making the most out of the space your home currently has without making unnecessary renovations.  Small changes can do wonders for the look and appeal of your home to yourself and others and these small changes can be relatively inexpensive and painless.

You can look at the existing layout of your home and see what changes can be made to get the most out of the space that you already.  You can think about removing an interior wall or just opening it up a bit to give your home that airy and open feeling.  You might also be able to rearrange the furnishings in your home to change the way rooms look or the way you and your guests move around the rooms.  You can also think about altering the lighting in your house to give a different ambiance to rooms in your house.  Also, you can try adding skylights and touch lamps and making the most of the natural light that you can bring into your house.

If using the existing layout of the house is just not working for you and your redecorating mind, try extending your current space by adding several feet or two to give you that added space or flexibility that you might be looking for in that creative mind of yours to bring out that custom look and feel.  And if you feel like that you need even more spacious room, you can look at adding on a small addition that will still allow you to remodel smarter and not bigger while over spending or taking on more than you are ready for your remodeling efforts.

The key is to really try to look at what changes you really need to make to your home right away to make it a better place for you to live versus what changes can be made at a later date.  You want to try to improve and enhance the space you already have while keeping your personality and style intact.  Be sure your decisions allow your house to function for you, your family and guests in a cost effective way – thinking smarter while not necessarily bigger.
